Van Chan

The Van Chan cooperative, founded in 2006, provides Vietnamese teas from the villages of Suoi Bu, Ta Nanh and Lien Son, in the province of Yen Bai in the North West of Vietnam. 

The climate and soil type are almost the same as in Yunnan, China. The H’Mong and Dao ethnic minorities harvest the tea in the rainforest.

The harvested leaves are directly processed by hand in the heart of the villages and then transported to the manufacturing plants. 

The production of tea, as well as spices (cinnamon, ginger), constitutes an interesting alternative to the cultivation of opium which was very popular there until now.
